Rescue the Rockaways: Helping out a Kansas native and her family...

My friend Rachael recently emailed me about her sister's family and how they were affected by Hurricane Sandy. Their town of Rockaway Beach, New York was one of the places hit the hardest, and in turn has left them without a home and their family business (The Harbor Light Pub). Elise Berlau Heeran  and her husband who is a firefighter in Rockaway have a 2 girls, 2 years old and 4 months. My heart breaks for them, as I can't even imagine what they are going through...especially with their little ones.

Rachael and a few other Shawnee Mission East Graduates, have set up a way for you to donate and help the communities of Breezy Point, Rockaway Beach and  Broad Channel New York.

Right now, they are at 57% of their goal, and have raised over $11,000! Give a little, give a lot...whatever your heart tells you to do! Click HERE to donate.

  1. Such a sad story, and what a cute family! It is heartbreaking. This beautiful beachside community was hit hard. I think I had even heard about the Harbor Light Pub on our local news. Just devastating.

  2. I've been seeing that family all over the place lately...had no idea it was Rachel's sister. So sad. I am thankful for the roof over my head and our mild weather.
