Showered in Pink

This past weekend my girlfriends threw me the most precious, extremely girly "sprinkle". They also incorporated a ballet theme complete with a tutu table skirt, a Candy "Barre" packed with "Nutrcracker Sweets" and a Onesie bunting with screen printed ballerinas. It was perfection!

Brown Sugar Scrub: The Recipe

I had some requests for the brown sugar scrub that I had shown on the Blush and Bashful baby shower. Donna (the party planner) was kind enough to share the recipe! This recipe makes about 8 4oz jars. It's SO easy and makes a really great party favor. So, here you go....

Brown sugar scrub

2c brown sugar

1c granulated sugar

1c safflower oil

1T vanilla extract

 

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and then transfer to jars. Makes about 32 oz.

Blush and Bashful

My friend Susan and her friend Donna ( a party planner from Virginia) threw the GIRLIEST pink baby shower, and I was lucky enough to be able to photograph the event! In Donna's words, here is how the party came together...

I recently had the pleasure of designing a baby shower for my best friend's niece Lauren. When my best friend Susan Hart approached me about designing this shower, she had a clear vision of what she wanted. Her request, simple, LOTS of pink and whimsy.

In order to make this vision a reality, the party literally started at the front door.

To greet guests…yards of tulle, a feather boa wrapped 'I' and a tray of sparkling pink champagne with paper butterflies perched upon each glass.

My inspiration for this shower came from recently learning how to make tu-tus. I was looking for a cute homemade gift I could give to some of my friends kids and discovered a great tu-tu tutorial on Mommy blessings blog. From there, I wanted to make tu-tus for everything… hence the giant tu-tu on the sweets table.

The idea of the onesie garland makes for great shower décor as well as a perfect shower gift. All I did was design a graphic that matches the décor of the shower. Printed it out onto iron-on transfer paper (don't forget to flip the design before you print). Cut out the design and iron onto each onsie.

One of my favorite activities of the shower was the photo booth. Each guest was instructed to get gussied up in tiaras, necklaces, cocktail rings and boas and have their picture taken with Lauren, the mommy-to-be. I think the photo booth really helped the guests to let loose, as did the mom-to-be.

Your's truly took the photos...I had a BLAST!  It was such a fun activity at a party, it seems as though you are never too old to get dressed up and get silly

Another beautiful touch was the wishing tree, made of branches from Susan's yard and some spraypaint and added sparkle and paper butterflies. Guests wrote a wish for Lauren and Baby Isabella on a card and tied it to the tree

Don't say baby was a game in which each guest was pinned with one of Donna's homemade silk flowers. If you heard someone say baby you could take their flower. Whoever had the most at the end of the shower won a prize!

It's raining TUTU'S AND RUFFLES!

This weekend I was so thrilled to be able to celebrate my friend Gigi's 2nd baby with a "sprinkle"...a.k.a, shower for your 2nd baby. Since Gina is having a girl the second time around, it was fun to celebrate all things girly and sweet.

My good friend Kelly from WH Hostess did the invites which in turn gave me inspiration for a theme. I told her I wanted to do pink, yellow and green. All very cheerful colors and great for a summer shower. In an effort to stay on a budget, I also tried to work around table linens and items I already had in my home. You would be surprised how much you can save! Kelly came up with these adorable invites. I should have taken a photo of the back because they are darling. It is a yellow and white greek key pattern that she then incorporated into the cupcake toppers.

To keep with the sprinkle/shower theme Kelly suggested doing a plant with a big paper parasol in the middle. Unfortunately, my chandelier is too low, so that didn't work. Instead we just used the asian inspired parasol at the end of the table. I also used little cocktail umbrellas in pink to tie in the shower theme as well. I found the umbrellas at US Toy here in Kansas City.

Since the shower was from 3-5 I decided to stay light on the food and heavy on the sweets! I attempted my first sweets table, and I really love how it turned out. I didn't go overboard (trying to stay on budget). I was also lucky enough to have recently inherited a gorgeous cut glass container assortment from my grandma that were perfect for holding all of the goodies. 

I also have to mention that it is quite a challenge to find appropriately colored candy for a sweets table. Kelly suggested Home Goods for the gum balls and she was right on! They had gorgeous packages of multi colored, BIG gumballs. I also used mint meltaways (in pink, green, yellow), lemon drops, Green and Pink Jelly Belly's and a pink assortment of Starburst. If you are trying to fill big jars, Candy Warehouse has the best assortment.

I did cupcakes from Dolce Bakery (in Prairie Village, KS) and Kelly did the adorable toppers. I always love to be able to use my Juliska cake plates...they are one of my favorite investments!

I used a lot of ribbon...it's an inexpensive way to jazz up your table or glassware! Here I tied them onto the stem of wine glasses.

Every girl went home with a sweet bag (filled with candy or a cupcake) that said, "Thanks for being so SWEET!".

I am blessed to have met such a dear soul here in Kansas City...
