Cheap and Chic: Fave drugstore makeup

I am typically not a drugstore makeup kind of gal. Not that I have anything against them, I just hate not being able to try on the colors! As you know, how it looks in the packaging isn't always how it looks on.

Then, the other day I decided to give a Revlon lipstick color a try. The packaging caught my eye (kind of similar to Chanel, no?) and the colors looked decent. I bought the Colorburst Lip Butter in Cotton Candy. It's a soft pink that definitely is more sheer. But it's the perfect everyday color. $6.50 at Target.

I liked the lipstick so much, I decided to get some glosses. These are the colorburst glosses in Strawberry(left) which is a really pretty watermelon pink. And then Hot Pink on the right, which is definitely a HOT pink. It's more of a color I would wear out in the evenings. Also around $7 at Target

I am also loving their nail polish! I don't think I have bought Revlon nailpolish since high school. This color is called Minted. $4.99

and if you follow me on Instagram, you would have seen this color I posted. It's called Cherry Bon Bon and it's scented! For real...it's kind of wild. I found this at CVS in Chicago, haven't spotted it here in KC though...

What do you think of Revlon? Yay or nay?

A little bit Juicy

A friend recently gave me one of Lancome's Juicy Tubes and now I am hooked! I love their slight hint of color, the fruity smell and the consistency is great. Not too sticky with the perfect amount of shine.

I have Pink Horizon, and I love it for daytime, because it isn't too pigmented and doesn't make you look like you have a very made up lip. It also looks wonderful layered over your favorite lipstick, because the color is so sheer. The pic doesn't do it justice, it has more flecks of gold in the tube.

It's also the perfect gloss for if you want just a touch of shine when you are poolside or at the beach! $18 at Sephora.com

I am adding to my reading list...

Beauty Junkies unite, because there is another great beauty blog to add to your reading list. My friend Heather (same name, different person) introduced me to Heather Does Makeup...a fabulous all things beauty blogger coming to us from Dublin, Ireland.

Heather does FABULOUS step by step tutorials that will make you want to go out and buy all the products and duplicate the look. I also love her product reviews. She will give you the inside scoop before you make the purchase! Even though she is from Ireland, most products she uses can also be purchased in the U.S..

This is Heather...stunning, isn't she?

She has only been blogging for a few months! I am excited to see what other fun makeup looks she will create!

Beauty Buzz

I've added a few new items to my beauty bag and thought I would share them with you. I am a cosmetics junkie, and so I love it when I find new products that just WOW me!

A good friend of mine is a beauty buyer and let me sample Tarte's new lip stains. If you love the cheek stain, then you will ADORE the version for your lips. I have never had anything stay on my lips as long and that are actually moisturizing.  In fact, this product has been clinically proven to moisturize lips by 6000%!!!! That is quite a statistic! I own Lust (the red shade) and it is a great natural, rosy red. It's such a light shade of red, I really think you could wear it every day. $24 available at Sephora or at Beauty Brands

Another great Tarte product is their primer with Wrinkle Re-Wind technology. Not only does it minimize pores, but it also decreases lines and wrinkles and increases the appearance of your skins firmness by 47%. I love that it  makes your makeup go on more evenly and will help it stay put throughout the day. It's under $35 which is also great for a primer. $32 on Sephora or at Beauty Brands.

I mentioned this product very early on in my blogging. I have not used Duri Rejuvecote  for 2 years, because nobody in Kansas City sells this. I was trying to avoid having to order it and pay shipping...it seemed silly for a nail polish. But my nails were paying the price! They started to chip again, not grow as fast and just overall they didn't look as good. I bit the bullet, and I am glad I did. This product is amazing. If you do your own nails, it's a wonderful base and top coat. If you get manicures, it will extend them much longer just by putting it on each day after. It's $12 (plus shipping) but SO worth it!

Lastly, this is my favorite "end of summer" color. It's called Flirt by Essie and it is a wonderful color to transition into fall. It's in between coral and red, and it looks great when you still have a tan without looking too summery. I believe it is an old color, but I never seem to tire of it! available HERE
