Closet Confidential: End of summer...

One thing I will be sad to say goodbye to is summer whites and soft neutrals. I never tire of this color combo and it always looks crisp and clean. With temps still in the 90's, I decided to eek a few more wears out of this white skirt...

Bringing back the bezel...

Anyone remember this watch? Oh yes, it's the Gucci bezel watch which I believe hit it's height of popularity in the mid 90's. My high school boyfriend gave this to me; I have to give him credit, he had good taste for a young guy. I had totally forgotten about this watch until  my mom and I were talking about old jewelry.

I pulled it out only to find that I also had about 15 bezels to go with it. Those were the days...when you would match your bezel to your outfit? Pretty funny, I have to say...

I am normally a fan of a bigger men's inspired watch, but I think I might just have to bring this back for fall. I paired it with my David Yurman, 2 J.Crew leather wraps and a Bottega Veneta woven bracelet.

Anyone out there still own this bracelet? Or did you sell yours on Ebay? I could not believe that they were selling for close to $300 on Ebay!

Booties and boyfriend jeans...

I am loving the idea of a boyfriend jean and suede wedges for fall. I can't wear a super high heel anymore after ruining my feet during pregnancy, so a wedge heel is a great option for me. This look via a photo on Pinterest is just what I had in mind. Although, my booties would have to have a closed toe!

Here are a few of my favorite options for fall...

A good scrub

I am back from a great trip to beautiful, cool, and sunny Minnesota. I was so delighted to return home to a package from favorite beauty blogger Elizabeth Dehn. I was lucky enough to win her giveaway of JR Watkins Coconut Sugar and Shea scrub. After an AWFUL day of travel, and spending wayyyyyy too much time in an airport, this was just what I needed.

I gave it a whirl this morning and I am totally smitten with the product. In the blog post that Elizabeth did about the scrub, she mentioned it was so moisturizing that you don't even need lotion afterwards. I really couldn't believe it. No scrub is ever THAT GOOD. Well, let me tell you...it is!

It has a very subtle, but nice coconut smell and it's just what you need to lightly exfoliate your body. It leaves just the right amount of Shea oil on your skin that you can actually feel even after drying off your skin. . After trying this product, I am anxious to order something else from JR Watkins. Maybe their Peppermint foot cream (which is award winning, by the way...) or the foot scrub?

All of JR Watkins products are natural and made right here in the USA. Being a Minnesota girl myself, I am happy to support their business which has been based out of Winona Minnesota since 1885. For all of their other products, visit www.jrwatkins.com

Guest Post: Peyton from California Wife

I am so glad that Peyton obliged to guest post for me this week! I adore her blog. Maybe it's because she is a native Hoosier, or because she loves reality t.v. just as much as I do, or probably because I live vicariously through her child-free life in California. Regardless, her blog is fantastic and you should definitely check her out if you have not already. Thanks again Peyton!

Hi, I'm Peyton from Life as a California Wife!  I'm a teacher, obsessive dog mom, and shopaholic who is still trying to adjust to the ways of life in the California desert after growing up in Indiana.  I tend to blog about a little bit of everything, but I definitely have a passion for fashion.

When Melanie asked me to write up a guest post for her while she is away this week I was ecstatic.  I absolutely love Melanie's blog and style, and was thrilled when we asked me to create my a lust list of my 5 dream items for fall.

Here are 5 of my favorite things for Fall...

Okay, let's be honest, this bag is totally NOT. GOING. TO. HAPPEN. If I could choose one new bag for fall though, this would totally be it!  Love the color, love the shape, love it all!

Ahh, who doesn't love Tory Burch?  I have beat my current riding boots to death, and will definitely need to invest in a new pair this fall.  Although this is a little more of an investment than I'll actually be making, this is the pair I would definitely love to snatch up.

Although I fully embraced the skinny jean trend, and still plan to, I'm thrilled that flares are back this fall!  I love how they look with the perfect boots, and a silk blouse.  I can't wait to embrace this trend once the temps drop!

I always break out my gold jewelry a lot more in the fall, and think this necklace would be a perfect addition.

If there was one dress I would love to add to my teacher wardrobe it would be a DVF wrap dress.  I absolutely love her dresses, and would love to own one.  They're so timeless and classic!

A huge thanks to Melanie for inviting me to guest post for her while she's away!

Guest Post: Shannan from Merci Blah Blah

Thanks so much to Shannan for guest posting today! I love Shannan. She is an incredibly stylish mom to Triplets, she works AND she also finds time to write her Blog; Merci Blah Blah.

Shannan's blog is very funny and filled with everything from fashion to reality t.v. to her diary of her insane workouts she has been doing with Zuzana. Again, Shan, not sure how you do it all...

anyhow, here's Shannan's lust list! Enjoy!

Hi all! Melanie asked me to guest post for her while she is hobnobbing in Fargo, so I was glad to oblige. I thought I'd share my Lust List of items I'm crazy bananas for come fall. Apparently lately, I cannot seem to get enough 70s boho Farrah Fawcett-Majors/Stevie Nicks via Native America with a dash of Aztec-aaaah thrown in for good measure. These come via supah dupah giant flare jeans, cool vintage button down blouses, and platforms (thanks Farrah), or fringe, fringe, and more fringe (a la Stevie - Mz Nicks if you're nasty).

For the love of Jaleel White, that bag? Need to build a bridge and get OVER itself.

Those boots are made for walking right the hell into my closet.

Fringe. Suede. Bag and Boots. ALL are DEFINITE must-haves fo fall. Fo sho.
Let's get one thing straight - THIS is the year I will conquer the kimono. I have been searching for DECADES for the perfect one. And by "decades" I mean "the past few seasons." But still, I am OBSESSED with them. Don't care if it's vintage or new. It will be mine. Oh yes, it WILL be mine.

Hope you enjoyed mah lust list - stop on over at merciblahblah if you haven't been by before. We'll leave the light on for you.

Merci!
Shannan

Guest Post: Sarah from Apparently Obsessed

Thanks so much to Sarah from Apparently Obsessed for guest posting for me while I am on vacation! Sarah has sophisticated style, with a sensible feel. She is also a Kansas City mom, and posts about great things for kids (especially little boys!). Here is her Fall 2011 lust list...

I am SUPER excited to be guest blogging on Scout today.  Big thanks to Melanie, who was a real-life acquaintance, became a blogging friend and is now a real-life friend too!

Compiling my Lust List was a treat...and gave me a chance to take all the Fall trends I am seeing and bring them to (real) life.  Here we go!

Manly Things.  Masculine is a big trend for Fall.  And while the pantsuits and ties are a little much for my every day life, something we can incorporate is a great loafer.  And I love this "Glenda" Loafer from Lauren by Ralph Lauren.  The perforated trim is a nice feminine touch and you can never go wrong with black patent.

Colored Pants.  We saw a bit of this trend last year but it's sticking around.  And again, not really my thing.  So I plan to add my pop of color on my lips.  Mac's Brave Red is perfect.  It's a creamy muted red with a bit of a sheen.  It's very dewy looking and feels nice on the lip.  It's a great entry in to the "red lip" look that is also pretty popular right now.

Hippie Chic.  LOVE this trend.  Channeling my inner Zoe is right up my alley.  Can't wait to pair these Citizens of Humanity "Hudson High Rise" jean with a wedge and a silky blouse.  This will quickly become my go-to going-out outfit.

Geometric Prints.  I have always been a stripe girl.  They are kind of geometric, right?  But I adore this polka dot scarf by Marc Jacobs.  So great to pump up a simple t-shirt and jeans or as your go-to every day scarf.

Bags.  We got new backpacks every year, right?  So a new handbag seems fitting.  Personally, I think a handbag should be a classic shape and color - something that can last a few seasons and trends.  I cannot stop thinking about the capsule collection Sofia Coppola did for Louis Vuitton - classic speedy shape, rich colors, top handles AND a strap!  While this leather one is beautiful...

Look at the gray suede!  Love that it will get more relaxed and broken in with use.  (Unfortunately, this is pretty much sold out everywhere so it will have to remain a lust.)

Thanks for having me Melanie!  Be sure to stop by Apparently Obsessed for musings on all my favorite food, fashion and finds!

Rugged and Lace...

I have been wanting a chambray shirt for 2 seasons now, but everytime I try them on I think back to 1996 when I was wearing one layered with a turtleneck and oversized Abercrombie and Fitch sweater. ugh. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth!

When I saw this image, it had me inspired. I love the pairing of a rugged denim shirt with a super feminine skirt. Now THIS is a look that I could totally wear and feel comfortable in...

I adore these 2 options to complete the ensemble. Denim shirt by Madewell...

And this Haute Hippie Rhinestone lace skirt is GORGEOUS and 50% off! $217.50

Super(model) Mom: Meet Megan

Meet Megan, from a favorite blog of mine, Honey We're Home. She was nominated by the last Super Model Mom I featured, Lili from Swanky Chic Fete.

Megan is an adorable Mom who lives in Houston with her husband and son James. She blogs about fabulous DIY home projects, organization and decor. You may remember me posting pics of her closet? Ahhhhh, could you die?!

Thanks to Megan for participating in Super Model Mom and give us insight into her personal style!

1.) What is your "uniform" most days?

Now that's is summer in Houston and the temperatures are 100+ degrees, you'll mostly find me in short shorts (never thought I'd wear those again!), a tank top, and flip flops or wedge sandals.  I feel naked without my Michael Kors watch.

2.) Who inspires you the most?

On a persona level, I'd say Oprah Winfrey.  Her honesty, integrity, and intention to fulfill her life's purpose by being guided by divine inspiration is contagious.

3.) If you could raid one celebrity closet, whose would it be?

Probably Jenifer Aniston.  I love her simple, well-tailored wardrobe.

4.) Favorite splurges?

I will splurge on a handbag or shoes that I know I'll get a lot of use out of.  I have a LouisVuitton wallet that I absolutely love that I've been using for about 3 years now- it was a birthday gift from my husband.

5.) Favorite budget items?

Mossimo tank tops and shorts from Target!

6.) What item in your closet do you cherish the most?

My engagement and wedding ring- absolutely spectacular and so sentimental that my hubby surprised me by having them custom made.

7.) If you could bring back one fashion trend from the past, what would it be?

I'd say bell-bottoms and really tall wedge shoes, but I think they are already back!

8.) How has becoming a mom changed your personal style?

My style has evolved as my body has changed!  But now that my son is nearly a year and a half old, I'm thankfully able to wear my pre-pregnancy clothes again and loving it.  I don't believe in dressing frumpy because I'm a mom, I like to dress up and wear cute clothes that show (at least a little) how hard I've worked for my figure!  I like halter tops that show my shoulders or pants/dresses that highlight a slim waist.

9.) If money was no object, what would you love to purchase right now?

hmmm, I had to do some research on this one.  In a fantasy world, the Tiffany Keys Kaleidoscope key pendant is pretty cool!

10.) What are your top 3 favorite style blogs?
Veronika's Blushing
La Dolce Vita
Elements of Style
