Mixed Emotions

As of today I have officially entered my "mid-thirties". 35, to be exact. This day is a tad bitter sweet, as I should be in Napa Valley with my husband and his family...a trip planned over a year and a half ago.  But, there was a small wrench in our plans...this little peanut decided she didn't want to take a bottle.

I tried EVERYTHING...5 different bottle nipples, multiple sippy cups, my husband tried and so did my mom. But this sweet girl CRIED AND CRIED AND CRIED. For hours. It was miserable. So, I made the decision to stay home with her. And you know what? As sad as I am that I am not with my husband and in-laws on this amazing trip I wouldn't trade this experience with my baby for anything. You get this small window of "baby time" and I am going to relish every minute of it. Some may judge and say I am crazy. Some would say just leave her and she will figure it out. But that's not what I wanted to do.

So, today I am just going to snuggle her, kiss her and enjoy my 35th birthday with my little ones and my parents. And don't think I won't pop some bubbly and celebrate with something sweet!

And a HUGE thanks to my incredibly sweet girlfriends for throwing me one of the best 35th birthday parties...a corks and canvas party! We painted, drank wine, and laughed as we channeled our inner Picasso. What a blast! I highly suggest it if you and your friends want to do something fun. My party was at Artichokes in Mission Farms (for those of you in KC).

Alice (Susan's Mom), Susan, Tracey, Me, Amanda, Sarah, Maria, Soni (my mom)

And here is our finished work! I can't wait to hang mine in our master bath.

Have a great Monday everyone!

xoxo

  3. Hi - I've never commented before but just wanted to encourage you that you will not regret this time with your sweet girl! There will be many many more fabulous trips in your future I hope, and the way she trusts you right now will be foundational for the rest of her life. I'm hoping to have one night away in 2 weeks and my 7 month old isn't so sure about the bottle right now, either (he's my 3rd). I'll make that same tough decision if I need to. :( Enjoy your birthday!

    1. Thanks Marisa. It's so stressful isn't it? It's so much pressure when we are the primary food source. Whatever decision you make will be the right one :)

  5. Happy Birthday Mel!! Only one of mine would take a bottle and I think I selfishly was happy. This was the only way I could unselfishly have time with my sweet baby! You will never regret staying home. There will be many more trips, but these sweet babies grow so quickly! I am sure your parents were happy to be able to spend time with their baby and grandchildren! Let them spoil you and enjoy your Birthday! You look young and beautiful as always! Miss you!

  6. Happy, happy birthday! Wishing you a wonderful day and fabulous year ahead. Enjoy the time with your beauty. She is precious. I am sure she will give you extra love, cuddles and smiles today. The art party looked really fun. Such a neat idea. Your painting is very good. Reminds me a bit of an ikat print. The colors are fabulous. : )

  7. Hang in there Melanie! My husband and I own a wine distributorship in MO and it took me 6 yrs to get him to take me to Napa the FIRST time (because we had a new house and a new baby) and then another 5 yrs to get back (that delay was for a WHOLE other reason). Time marches on so fast!

AND right now the roads in Napa are under MAJOR construction (we were just out there 9/6-9/9). Hope I made you feel better!

  15. Happy Birthday. The whol;e bottle things kinda sucks but you know they are only so small for such a little amount of time. When mine crawl into bed with us in the night i really just think...one day they won't want to do this anymore so it's nice to soak up their baby years and enjoy smelling that baby smell for as long as possible. I'm not sure the teen phase will be this nice smelling ;)

  18. Happy Birthday!! I couldnt agree with you more. I spent my entire day (and Tues is a day when all 3 are in school) on a field trip with my 10 year old and at first I was mad at myself but then I was thinking, in 8 years she will be gone, away at college and on her own. She has already lived more than half of the time that she will live with me. I suddenly was very glad that I got to spend the day with her and it was a great day!!

Napa will be there next year
