One of my favorite brands at Target is Converse One Star. I always seem to find something there that fits just nicely into my wardrobe. My newest purchase was their Super Soft tunic top in a shade of Navy. This top is like the most comfy sweatshirt you will ever own, except it actually has some shape and style to it.
I laughed so hard when my friend came over for a playdate and we had the exact same outfit on...the tunic top and black leggings. I really am bummed I didn't buy it in more colors, because it has been my go-to these last few weeks. It looks great over leggings or skinny jeans.
p.s.-these pictures don't really do it justice, it's much cuter in person. And, I think they just got marked down too, so if you want one I would get to Target ASAP!

Super(model) Moms: Meet Christi
I am sure many of you know Christi, she is the face and the talent behind P is for Party. I have become blog "friends" with Christi over the past few months, and it is a shame she lives all the way in Texas! I believe we would have a great time together, if we lived in the same city.
Christi has a always had a passion for party planning. After working with a wedding coordinator for her own wedding, and loving every minute of it, she decided to go and work for the same event planning company, called Belle of the Ball. She worked there for a few years and decided to retire after her first son was born. She started P is for Party in May of 2009 as a creative outlet outside of her duties as a SAHM. Since then she has been hired to plan some phenomenal parties as well as throw some personal parties that are absolutely fabulous (see here).
Anytime Christi writes about fashion on her family blog, I feel like she is in my head. I love her taste and her boys are always decked out in the cutest preppy getups. Christi has an impeccable eye, and it was fun to read the insight into her personal style.

What is your daily "uniform"?
I have several daily "uniforms". I workout on most days, so I typically start the day wearing a pair of Lululemon Wunder Groove crop pants along with their Scoop Neck tank and a light jacket. On the days I'm not hitting the gym, or if I'm lucky enough to grab a shower during the day, I'll put on a pair of skinny jeans and tall boots (during the fall) or flats paired with some kind of fun, somewhat "in the now" top and jewelry.
For a night out on the town...kid free, what would be your favorite outfit?
We try to have a date night once a week which consists of dinner and a movie. Boring, I know, but it's such a peaceful break! For these nights, I still go to my skinny jeans, tall boots and a nice top or fitted jacket. If I'm feeling adventurous, I'll wear a pair of chunky heels. I love to dress up though and love when a dressier opportunity arises!
Your top 3 places to shop for yourself
Neiman Marcus - I hope I don't sound like a snob! It's just that it is a one stop shop for all of the labels I love to splurge on.
Various boutiques in Houston - SoHo is a fave!
Target
Your top 3 places to shop for your kids
My husband and credit card thank me for not having girls, but oh how I wish I could buy all of the cute girly things out there! I have two boys, so I am limited.
For basics - Old Navy, Gap and Nordstrom
Trunk shows - Castles & Crowns and Shrimp & Grits are two of my favorites!
I also really like Crew Cuts and Mini Boden
That's more than 3, woops!
What one item would you like to splurge on this season?
I would love to get my hands on the Prada Napa Gaufre Expandable Tote!
What is your favorite bargain item?
Anything from Target! I could spend hours in that store. Right now, I am obsessed with a pair of black Mossimo jeggings that I can' stop wearing. I wear them with my Steve Madden black over the knew boots for a comfortable, but stylish look.
What are the things you can't leave your house without?
My iphone and lipgloss...and kids!
What are your favorite beauty items?
I wash my face with a gentle cleanser by A-cute Derm Pro-C Antioxidant Cleansing Gel and I swear by Ilona Buoyancy night treatment.
If you were referring to makeup, than I love anything by Chanel and Laura Mercier. My staple lipgloss is Spark by Chanel and Orgasm blush by Nars. I always blush when I have to restock that last item, ha!
If you could raid the closet of one celebrity, who would it be?
This is a tough one! My style changes on a daily basis, so there are a handful of celebrities whose styles I admire. I like the styles of Rachel Bilson, Blake Lively (on screen and off!), Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Anniston when it comes to formal attire.
What is one clothing/accessory that you love the most and will never part with?
I have a handful of answers for this one! I don't think I could ever part with items that I splurged (the guilt factor!) or on unique pieces I have picked up over the years. For example, I have a lot of fun tops and dresses from What Comes Around Goes Around in New York which I bought while living in the city and before it became a celebrity spotting boutique. I have reworked Lacoste shirts and vintage t-shirts made into dresses from there that I love...but never wear anymore. But they represent a fun time in my life and I am sentimental and can't let go!

My little Menace
This is about a week late, but I wanted to share pics of Julian dressed as Dennis the Menace for Halloween. It was the most comfortable costume, and he didn't even mind us spiking his hair up with tons of pomade and hairspray! He can't stop talking about Dracula and Ghosts...we are hoping this is quickly replaced by Santa and Reindeers. I don't know if I can hear "Mommy, where's Dracula?" one more time!!!!!!!!

happy as a clam, heading out to trick or treat...

How to: shorts and tights
I know this look has been around for a few years, but I am still seeing many different wool shorts at all different price points. In fact Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 had a HUGE selection of them. Again, I think these are so versatile. Dress them up, dress them down, either way it is a nice alternative to a skirt or your typical black pants.

Move over LBD
Can you believe it is less than 2 months to Christmas? Do you know what this means? It means it is about a month until holiday parties. We already have 2 of them on our calendar, which blows my mind!
I am over my little black dresses, and I had a red dress I wore last year. So, this year it's going to be all about sparkle, in the form of a sequin skirt. There are so many options to choose from, and I love all the different ways you can style them. Here is my inspiration...

I just saw this in person at Forever 21 and it is DARLING. For $22.80, you can certainly justify it just for one season.

"Greige"
from the Chanel runway, via
This is how I would describe this nail color by Chanel. It's kind of a cross between a gray and beige, don't you think? The real color is called Particuliere #505, and it is all the rage right now. I have seen it on, and I really love the color. It's perfect for fall, and to be honest, I am kind of over the super super dark nails. Although I know I will be busting out my vamp and wicked at some point.
California Wife found a very similar color by Sonia Kashuk, and I think it might fit the bill! $39.95 is a lot for a nail polish, and I believe this is probably around $7.
what do you think? pretty or pretty heinous?

Super (model) Moms: Meet Rachel
I am so excited to introduce you to my friend Rachel. She is a mother to 2 gorgeous boys (you may remember her son Will from this post). The entire family is adorable; straight out of a photo shoot in Cookie Mag. Rachel literally does it all...she might be the busiest woman I know. Outside of being a mom, she also works full time as a creative director for a Marketing/Communications firm. She does Junior League, throws the most incredible birthday parties (see here) AND she manages to run 20-25 miles a week. Oh and did I mention she always looks adorable on top of all of this?
pictured with her son Will
Here is a sneak peek at what inspires Rachel!
1) What is your favorite "uniform"...your everyday go to outfit?
In the summer, it’s fun, patterned shorts with an oxford or Polo. In the winter, it’s skinny jeans, boots, and a blazer.
If I could splurge, it would be on the Prada Glace Calf Stud tote. The items of the season that are much more likely to find their way into my wardrobe are the crystal necklaces and earrings from J Crew. I am in love with the way they’re pairing glamorous jewelry with casual turtlenecks and tees.
3) How would you define your style?
Classic and body conscious – Diane Von Furstenberg is my favorite. I’m open to the idea of trends, but I’m much more focused on what works for my figure.
4) Do you think you influence your kids fashion decisions?
Absolutely…and they already want to influence mine! When I was trying to pick out something for a charity fashion show last summer, Will took one look at my coral Herve Leger dress paired with turquoise necklaces and asked, “If it’s a fashion show, shouldn’t you wear something stylish?” He suggested a floral top from Forever 21, a bright pink silk skirt, big gold earrings and black boots… and was crushed when I didn’t wear it.
6) Top 3 sites for your kids clothing?
7) When you were pregnant, what was one thing that always made you feel good/stylish/pretty?
Shopping! I am obsessed with maternity clothes and couldn’t stop myself - I had to take the tags off the dress I wore to the hospital to deliver Gray. My favorite outfit was a Pea in the Pod silk halter with a purple, Hermes-inspired print that I got on ebay, paired with Seven maternity jeans, gold stiletto thongs and tons of gold bracelets.
8) If you could raid the closet of one stylish person, who would it be?
Jennifer Aniston – I think I’d find a lot of similar staples as I have in my closet, but with much nicer labelsJ I love how she sticks to a neutral base of black, gray, navy, white and beige, but pairs them in unexpected combinations – she always looks clean and put together.
9) As a mom, what are some of your must-have items?
- Shawls! After 3 cumulative years of nursing, I have amassed quite a collection of wraps that I could toss over whatever I was wearing in public. I still use them often when I travel – especially since they stopped passing out blankets.
- Chanel sunglasses – the bigger, the better! After a night of soothing a 5-year-old’s nightmares and wrestling for covers with a 3-year-old who made his way into mom and dad’s bed, it’s nice to be able to hide my puffy eyes and feel a little bit glamorous.
- A pricey tailor and an inexpensive dry cleaner – Ok, ok, I know not every good tailor is expensive, but mine is. I have bought many a dress from Target that cost less than the alterations, but it is so worth it. On the flip side, I like to have the boys’ sweaters and dark shirts dry cleaned to limit fading, so having an affordable cleaner is a must.
- Flats. I didn’t own a pair before kids – in fact, I wore 4” stiletto sandals to the hospital to deliver Gray - but I quickly learned there are times when heels just won’t do. My now beloved nude Jack Rogers go with everything and have gotten me through 2 Disney World treks.
- Tide Stain Remover Pen – I think I need it as often as my kids
10) What is a favorite "budget" item in your closet?
Years ago, I bought 3 spaghetti strap, thong-bottom camisole bodysuits from New York & Company: one white, one nude and one black. In any given week, I probably wear all 3. They are perfect under sheer clothing – just the right coverage without adding any bulk or lines. It’s one of those items that you wish you could go back in time and buy 10.
